Reframe
Drop "catalogue repair", because Shopify now gives copy, alt text and translation away for free. If S4 keeps its slot, make it "EU-ready store" for US and UK shops already selling to Europe, and test it in a small batch.Own scan of 217 live stores, 20 Oct 2026 · 24% show euro prices to German shoppers, and 92% of those show no EU safety info · acceptance rates are estimates
Free in ShopifyCopy, alt text, translationSidekick writes descriptions, the media editor suggests alt text, and Translate & Adapt auto-translates 2–8 languages.
Measured69% of images lack alt textTrue, but it's the cheapest gap to close. Only 1 store in 4 has mostly thin copy.
Measured24% show euro prices; 92% of those lack safety infoOne page load from a German address shows it. EU law has required the info since Dec 2024.
Measured93% have no product videoVisible in public product data. This belongs in S3.
Why the original is weak
Shopify gives it away. Sidekick writes descriptions, the media editor suggests alt text, and Translate & Adapt translates free. Every catalogue already goes to ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot by default.
Merchants won't pay even $10 a month. Of 18 AI description apps, the best has 6 reviews. Money goes to cheap SEO suites (Avada: 4,691 reviews, $0–99/mo). Fiverr description gigs have halved since 2023.
The gap is smaller than the pitch. In the median store, only 10% of products have thin copy. Missing alt text is fixed by a free app with 232 reviews.
The detector is broken. Shopify's public product list no longer includes alt text (0 of 217 stores).

Two versions worth keeping
C1
EU-ready store
What: for US and UK shops that already show euro prices:
the product-safety block EU law requires on every product page (manufacturer, EU contact, warnings);
the warnings and top 10 pages in German and French;
a check for the "withdraw from contract here" button the EU has required since 19 June 2026.
Applied to a copy of their theme, or as an import file.
Free sample: their bestseller page, rebuilt in German, with the safety block filled from their public details and the EU contact marked "to appoint". Plus one line: "German shoppers see euro prices; 0 of your 90 products show a manufacturer or EU contact."
Price: $450 for up to 50 products, $850 for up to 250. Then $99 a month for new products and rule changes.
Why it could work:
The easiest need to spot of anything we tested, with a dated rule behind it.
UK reviewers of the only safety-info app with traction say it lets them "continue our expansion in line with EU guidelines".
Watch out:
We can't be their EU responsible person. They appoint one; we leave the slot.
We say "information fields", never "compliant".
Enforcement on small non-EU shops is rare, so many will shrug: 28 of 30 safety-info apps have zero reviews.
EU shops need it most, but we can't cold-email them.
C2
Product video pack (moves to S3)
What: short videos for their top 10 products, made from their own photos, plus alt text on those pages.
Free sample: one 10–15-second video of their bestseller, shown in a mock of their product page.
Price: $400 for 10 products, then S3's monthly refresh.
Why it could work: 93% of sampled shops have none, it's visible in public data, and it reuses your strongest pipeline.
Watch out: Shopify's free Tinker app sets a low anchor, and generated products drift (labels, sizes), so S3's quality gate applies. Sell it as S3's entry offer. Alt text moves into S2 as a line item.
What clients will ask
They ask
We answer
"We're a US shop and only ship a few orders to Europe. Does this even apply to us?"
EU law treats euro prices for EU shoppers as a sign that you sell there. We show what's missing; your lawyer decides.
"Can you be our EU responsible person?"
No, it has to be a company based in the EU. We leave a marked slot, and the block goes live once you appoint one.
"We have 400 products from 12 brands. Can you bulk-fill the safety info?"
Yes. We pre-fill from your brand field and the makers' public sites, and you confirm one short sheet per brand.
"Can you do the German and French pages too, not just the safety bits?"
The top 10 pages are included. The whole store is the $850 tier.
"What happens when we add products next month?"
On the $99 monthly plan, new products get the block and translations within 2 working days.
